Today’s drive was the one that everyone had been waiting for. The journey to Bergamo in Italy, via the awesome Stelvio Pass! If you’ve viewed our website and seen previous blogs and pics, you know this needs no introduction. It’s one of the greatest driving experiences in the world. It really puts the teams driving abilities to the test, so stick around to see which cars survived and which were heading for the scrap yard! Following the morning briefing, the teams prepared their cars and were on their way!
Each and every year on the Motoscape Rally, the morning after the wine festival is probably the toughest one for most of the teams to attend! But despite a late night for some, all the teams made it to the morning briefing and eager to find out what was in store for the day.
Today we were driving from Koblenz to Feldkirch in Austria which is approximately 325 miles, and it’s one of the longer drives on the rally, but it gives teams plenty of chances to visit some amazing places en-route to Austria.
After a fabulous first day and night in St Omer, it was time for the teams to get down to business and start the Motoscape 2013 challenges! Today we were travelling from St Omer to Koblenz in Germany. The morning started with the briefing, outlining the day ahead, before everybody started their first real day of driving on the right hand side of the road. Also the teams were able to drive the Nürburgring, definitely something to tick off any worthwhile bucket list!
WOW! What a start to Motoscape 2013! Definitely the best bangers and fancy dress outfits we have ever seen, which made yesterday a great start to what is going to be a brilliant week. Registration opened at mid-day and as the teams arrived one by one, there was a great buzz of excitement going round as everyone admired the bangers coming in to dock! The sun was shining and the variety of cars and creativity made a fantastic spectacle!
As well as the registration process there was a few extra twists to this years rally. Ian and Chris from team ‘Make a Wish’ were raising money with a selection of drinks on offer in exchange for a donation to Motoscape’s nominated charity Make a Wish Foundation. John, Steven, Patrick and Gregg from West Lothian College ran a tyre changing competition; again for Make a Wish Foundation and in total over £300 was raised, a great effort!
I hope everyone’s preparations are well under way for the fantastic 2013 Motoscape Banger Rally.
I just thought I would share a few tips to make the event better than ever and hopefully save you time and hassle along the journey……….
1/ Should I decorate the car?
It’s up to you, but there are cash prizes for the best decorated cars but more importantly the vast majority of teams do decorate their cars and it adds to the spirit of the event!
Take a look at some previous banger creations!
You’ve all heard of “Holiday Horror Stories”, well the Motoscape team have heard their fair share of some real “Banger Rally, Horror Stories”! Be it from people who have taken part in rallies that have been poorly organised, had very few teams participating, or even rallies that have not even then taken place but organisers have happily took peoples registration money!
With this in mind, we have been asked by various people for advice on how to choose a legitimate banger rally. Here are a few pointers before handing over your hard earned cash to any banger rally organisers:
