Tuesday morning the weather started off a bit dismal but there was reason to be happy as team Don’t worry be Happy rejoined the rally late Monday night after their mega journey back to the UK to collect a car that worked. What’s more, they came up with a great limerick as part of the challenge:
Two middle aged men and a kid
bought a shit Saab for a few quid
They spent thousands of pounds
so they good drive it like clowns

Monday morning some Motoscapers were keen to get on the road early from Koblenz to Garmisch Partenkirchen as this is the longest driving day covering around 340 miles. Castles were the theme, as those doing the challenges went on a picture matching hunt and those not were still able to enjoy the views of German castles whilst driving alongside the picturesque river Rhine. Carrying on from the Day 1 blog, we are really sorry to report that Richard and Colin from team ‘It was alright in the 90s’ had no luck finding their car keys. Yesterday saw all 29 teams congregate in St Omer for the first day. The sun shone, beers were drunk whilst all admired each other’s cars and exchanged car stories. We had a bucket collecting any spare change for the charity prize draw. To everyone’s delight, Dudley and Josh from the Viking Warriors team won the bucket of change for their various charities and to our astonishment a total of £144.60 was collected during the afternoon as spare coins suddenly changed to crisp notes being thrown in. The start date for the Motoscape banger rally is getting nearer, so perhaps it’s now time to think about what car to bring along!
Consideration should be given to the following…
Comfort
There is a reasonable amount of driving, ranging from motorways (including the famous German Autobahns) to tight twisting mountain passes (including the magnificent Stelvio pass) so consider which is the most important factor for you.
A Jaguar will cruise effortlessly along the motorways but will not be at its best through mountain passes. A mini will be great fun through the mountains but struggle to keep up on the motorways.
