Motoscape Rally 2017 – Day 1 St Omer

Well what a start to Motoscape 2017! As the teams started to arrive during Saturday afternoon, we had brilliant sunshine: sun creams, shorts and sunglasses all required, but then from nowhere a dark cloud, rumble of thunder and torrential downpour of rain arrived. Did we say torrential? Yes we did and yes it was!! The Motoscape Organisers, Peter, Anna & Kevin with the help from some of the teams, grabbed everything from outside and dashed under cover but alas we were already drenched! Motoscapers looked wistfully on to the car park and their Banger and Classic cars – hoping no decoration was washed off or ruined! The rain bounced for quite a while, and Peter announced this was the first time in 12 years this had ever happened!

groupDespite this, Kat and Karly from Team ‘Kicking K’s’ arrived full of mystery and allure with their fabulous costumes and masks, defiant towards the rain gods! Stephen and Christyna from Team ‘Just Married’ walked through the hotel reception looking as though they’d just renewed their recent marital vows and kicked off their Motoscape honeymoon walking down the aisle of the car park, at which point the sunshine came out!

By the time the 6pm briefing began, the car park was awash with Motoscapers in fancy dress costumes, the scene was bonkers!  From giraffes and zebras, teletubbies, politicians, American rednecks, Alice in Wonderland, a circus ringleader, rock stars, men in sexy underwear aka Rocky Horror Show, men in paisley dressing gowns, men in heroic capes, punk mohicans, boiler suits, a cardinal priest, duck hunters, chess players, American footballers, Vikings and bandits to name just a few and, on a serious note, the Chuckle brothers ;-) the car park was full of colour, splendour and utter brilliance!

So many Motoscapers had evidently spent many dedicated hours creating their 4 wheeled masterpieces and everyone enjoyed admiring each other’s vehicles.  Entertainment was provided by Team ‘Duck Hunt’ with their quacking ducks on top of the bonnet and boot, followed by a ‘sound off’ from ‘Team Castle’ with every farmyard animal imaginable being played from their car, who needs music?

Welcome back to some teams returning for the second time – ‘Not so Touring’, ‘Collico 3’, ‘Redneck Rollers’, ‘Three idiots and an Irishman’ and ‘Skotsky Czechmates’ :-)

Also to our Veterans – Nigel, Stuart and Christyna and ‘Super’ Veteran, Stephen :-)

Now for the winner of the Best Fancy Dress:
I think everyone guessed the winner here, Team ‘Glorious but Whole’ dressed as The members of the band ‘Kiss’
Kiss

The runners up were also excellent with Team ‘Redneck Rollers’ dressed as a pair of southern USA Hicks.

The best decorated car was also hard to judge but with 2 standout cars tying for first place it was the Titanic car of team ‘Little and Large’ and the Viking themed longship of team ‘Valhalla or Bust’ that took the prize with Team ‘Rock Legends’ in 3rd place.
